Hi, nice to meet you
My name is Charlie James Cote and I use he/him pronouns. I am a gay/queer man of trans experience who was assigned female at birth. I have lived as openly male since my late teens, coming out during the early/mid-2010’s. In many ways, this meant transitioning alongside the world, as our society rapidly expanded our understanding of gender diversity and the prevalence of those who’s relationship to gender identity and expression falls outside of the xy or xx binary.
Oh, what a decade it has been…
Outside of DEI work, I am a writer, visual designer, theatre maker, and teaching artist. My love for storytelling and creative collaboration informs my approach to advocacy and serves as a powerful reminder of our similarities in the face of adversity. It is much easier to understand why a policy, rule, or word choice is necessary when you know the human impact of it.
I have a professional background in copywriting, healthcare admin, LGBT mental health care, and working with LGBT and gender-diverse young people. I bring these skillsets with me into consulting work and currently provide consultation and education services for arts & media organizations, health and wellness practitioners, and businesses/non-profits.
I live in Atlanta with my husband Topher, our giant orange cat, and our three-legged beagle mix. I am able to offer workshops, consulting, and speaking services remotely or onsite within the Atlanta-metro area.
